Curiosamente, el comentario de Maimónides tenía que ver con cuestiones de estilo, como el espacio entre párrafos, no con los aspectos más importantes de la transmisión exacta. ¿Puede encontrarse un texto masorético "puro"? Los eruditos no se ponen de acuerdo en cuanto a qué códice disponible hoy día es el texto "puro" de Ben Aser, como si ello nos fuera a dar el "verdadero" texto masorético. En realidad, nunca ha habido un texto masorético único, "puro", cuya autoridad sea incuestionable, sino que ha habido muchos textos masoréticos, cada uno ligeramente distinto de los demás.
